Apeln 9 on Vasavägen was built during the war years in the early 1940s. The housing shortage in Linköping was severe and the many workers at the factories and industrial plants needed housing. Linköping’s residential quarters of stone buildings emerged as the old wooden houses were demolished. Along the entire Vasavägen functional "Folkhem" four-storey buildings were constructed. Not all were as richly appointed with balconies as our property, Apeln 9.
