The Brandvakten block is located on the northwestern part of Kvarnholmen, south of Södra Kanalgatan between Larmgatan and Kaggensgatan. The fire station was put into use in 1906 and this is where the first permanent fire brigade established its base. In 1916 the brigade received its first fire engine and in 1926 the last horse disappeared. After 111 years, the fire station was moved in 2017 to another part of Kalmar and the property was renovated and extended. The older part of the fire station has been preserved externally.
